'MOENA MOXHAM IN GOOD COMPANY'

Moena Moxham's solo exhibition and collection of artworks bubbled and expanded from her three month adventure around Japan in March to June 2015. This trip was the realisation of a dream and fulfilment of a lifelong passion and fascination with the culture, language and aesthetic of the Asian isles. The trip was used as inspiration for the resulting work and as an investigative trip to find new opportunities for her art. Over this period she took to her love of expression through poetry; the medium being the best fit for her to convey her ideas quickly and efficiently while travelling.

The combination of Moena's artistic techniques, Asian and Pacific influence and meticulous attention to detail makes the works unique and progressive. There are three components to the 17 pieces; Textile, Poetry | Mixed media, and Grid.

Intricate and mathematical patterns constructed around rules and formula, combine with fluid ink markings and textural printmaking. Moxham's poetry expresses her life, loves and observations over this period. Each artwork is individual and orchestrated in conjunction with the selected poem and written in Moxham's handwriting.

Combining her love of the formal and playful, kinetic and calm; it is intimate and elegant collection with an essence and voice all of her own.

New Skin

…………......

Even daylight curls herself in night’s embrace

The laughing lady must have a darkness in her smile,

Not dusky, more like midnight,

Inky undulating pillows of ideas emanating from the

Inside

Out

Embellished with apertures framing opportunity.

Refracting snapshots build an image

The echo of a past production

Yet familiar in consistency and familiarity; the bass notes with

resonance and sound

Dynamic adaption to change

quiet, subtle but conscious evolution

growth, reflection, breaking apart and reforming in

New

Better

Stronger

Function over form

'H.O.T' - Dupion silk panel, gold foil & large format screenprint, embroidered signatures, 430 x 1500mm , 2015, 1/2

H.O.T

……....

Slowly, as the ice block begins to

m   e      l         t

The little licks become more frantic

Only pausing

to take breath, a mellow

Purr

Of contentment, readily affirmed by a long drawing taste from base to

Tip.

A mouth, cool with sweetness takes the entire block, gently

Encasing

Squeezing

The sides, the edges, running

a soft and relaxed tongue

Over

The surface

As the block melts and trickles

Swallowing memories and sensation.

Teeth nibble

Their fronts cool and zinging, affronted by the chill, gently they press

into the resistant texture

Savouring

Aroma

The combining theories of consumption at a pace

Less coolness, more stick

Satisfaction

Southerly

…………......

My face is

cold

My nose tingling

Breath slipping down inside me like

Gold foil lining my windpipe

There is no question my

Is alive, pumping and consuming

Got your back

……………….........

Is it so far fathomed to crave

Another’s

Touch

The warmth and soothing presence of soft skin against my back

Resisting the solitude and fight

To hold your own

I’d rather hold yours

That space between your heart and

the

Cavity

In your chest which

Constricts when the emotional mouse tries to pounce

and scuttle away

She’s been present too long

Looking for the morsel

Un-tapped,

Un-trapped,

Curling asleep with tail in

Paws

Making

……….....

It is a madness

When you are

Compelled

So deeply to fulfil and create

What is in your mind

Spilling out of you like

you have

Sprung

Leaks

like a cheese grater

Trying

To hold the water

of moving ideas, colours, fragments

Converging together until you are

Satisfied

Because they now exist Frankenstein!

❤️

….

You tell me you have never felt

Love

Its incomprehensible to me

To not touch and grasp the

Pain but beauty

The complexity of Divine madness

the only form of insanity which is publicly appropriate

How I have underestimated the spectrum of emotions

What courage it takes to

Explore

The grey, the red, the

Off

White

What an incredible gift it is to embrace humanism

How many chapters this emotion contains

Each written in a script that matures with time

The links and hues change and the

Ink

Refills and empties

'Digital Torture' - Framed, indian ink, red pigment liner, wax seal, (image) 368 x 317mm, 2015, 1/1

Digital Torture

……………….........

My finger hovers over the key

Aware of the pain the proceeding action will cause

But like the slush of tea from the teacup, it slowly comes

down to press into

Action

A visual gunshot to the face

Of happiness complete

Resounding and pure

The engulfing wave of shame, guilt, sadness and overwhelming loneliness breaks

Self imposed torture enlightened by the digital age.

Thank you for giving me an alternative, virtual noose from which to hang

For days

Like dried meat, emotionally crisp scraped on the

inside

out

No one else to blame except that sausage finger and access

Excess; esc

'Vision' - Framed, indian ink, gouache, lino ink stamp, white pigment liner, wax seal, (image) 368 x 317mm , 2015, 1/1

Vision

……......

Ever decreasing ellipses suck

me

closer towards the

void

Devoid of energy and suppressed in the most glorious black haze

Dropped in front of life

Preventing me from pushing through to the place where I am happy

Wanting to grab an edge

Rip

the veil away; setting fire to the

highly flammable

Passion which lies within

before it is buried under soft layers

drifting in like

Snow

'Ladders' - Framed, indian ink, red & black pigment liner, gouache, wax seal, (image) 317 x 368mm, 2015, 1/1 (Private Collection).

Ladders

….............

I have something important to say

while watching you appraise

me

glazing over and mentally undressing

me

gawking and gauging my

cup size, whether I am

wet for you

Bending me over the furniture

You

Underestimate me

Like I haven't summarised, measured and deemed you

un-fit

Your motives transparent

I

Will

Get

What

Want

You’d be better making it easy on yourself

And tuning into my words.

‘Paint with Words’ - Framed, paper collage, metallic acrylic, indian ink, lino ink stamp, wax seal, white pigment liner, (image) 317 x 368mm , 2015, 1/1

Paint with words

…………………...........

The words appear on the page

with no wrong or write way of appearing

They have just been

Said

Read

They are

solid

fully formed

And once they are out

You

can take it or leave it

No misinterpretation

Keep your opinion

The scribble may become

unintelligible, the spelling and grammar

off

But the message is rather

clear

Shall we mix it up, keep it fresh

Change the page to black and

Burn

white hot with meaning

'Soul' - Framed, indian ink, paper collage, lino ink stamp, black pigment liner, wax seal, (image) 368 x 317mm , 2015, 1/1

Soul

……...

People wander through the passageway

between

reflection

and

reality

Somehow Japan has completed the puzzle

She has heated and sealed the ends

which were fraying

So gently it soothed both

mind and body

Quietly embroidering the sparkle and glints of true happiness

The pattern created of hard work and diligence but

Lacking an essence unique

So inherent

only the buds know how to teach the

Flower

'The Bigger Picture' - Framed, indian ink, cut paper, metallic acrylic, black pigment liner, wax seal, (image) 317 x 368mm, 2015, 1/1 (DeMarco).

The Bigger Picture

……………………............

At some point you have to round the

edges

just a little

Forget the path and

relax.

Because when you do you see the wonder

in all

that is around you.

For the life you dreamed living

It is one shade

softer

the mountain in the background

Yet, she is sitting,

Residing

with her watchful eye on the playful

present

No need anymore to be in full relief or

to be in

Order
